TIN MAN's FOUR PASSES TOUR

Four Passes TourFull Day
This full day's outing is on one of the great scenic routes of the Cape taking in the four major mountain passes surrounding Cape Town and the Winelands.

Our first stop is historic tree-lined Stellenbosch, where we have time to visit "Oom Samie se Winkel" - an opportunity to step back in time and see what your grandparents might have bought. Alternatively, visit the Village Museum to see how the early European Settlers lived; or browse through the various shops and galleries. The first of the mountain passes is the Helshoogte Pass (Heights of Hell), which leads us into the beautiful and tranquil Franschhoek Valley.

Franschhoek, steeped in French tradition, is where we have lunch. The Franschhoek Pass, originally known as the Elephant's Path, is the second of the passes we tackle. A six kilometer drive to the summit, 520 m above the town of Franschhoek - the descent is a winding seven and a half kilometers. At the bottom we find the Theewaterskloof dam which we skirt before entering the orchard areas surrounding Elgin via the Viljoen's Pass.

A short drive to the top of Sir Lowry's Pass, where there is a superb panoramic view of the Cape Peninsula, False Bay and the Hottentot's Holland - weather permitting. Another six kilometer descent on the sweeping new new road back to Cape Town.
